So Martin has done the usual playing live with different bands and styles of music over the years in the Valley and previously when based in Manchester. Initial musical adventures in the late 60’s early 70’s included drumming in school bands and after the drums were lost in a pub bombing (N. Ireland) he took up the guitar and went busking in the South of France working with various other itinerant musicians and singers.
The musical highpoint was when working as co-writer with jazz/blues diva Helen Watson when she was signed up to a major deal with EMI aiming at a mainstream adult song oriented market in the late 80’s. This involved recording with legendary producer Glyn Johns in A&M Studios Los Angeles and staying in Beverley Hills in the bigshot style of the times. There was a lot of musical pleasure tho’ as they were working with such folk as Richie Hayward and Bill Payne from Little Feat and Mike Landau, Joni Mitchell’s guitarist at that time.
They moved on to do an album with BMG in the early 90’s before finally deciding that perhaps it was better to take control and do your own album – see discography below.
Though primarily a songwriter in search of the perfect 3:30 song, Martin has dabbled with many styles of live music over the years including Breton, Irish traditional alongside the usual rock, soul, r’n’b, country that folk of his vintage soaked up in the 60’s/70’s.
